

A number of students were judged to be state champions. Several of our students were finalists who went on to compete at the Adelaide Show. The Primary Industries Centre for Science Education (PICSE) Science Investigation Awards were held at GGHS showcasing science investigations from schools in the Barossa and North Eastern regions.

Seven Year 10 students represented GGHS at the United Nations Young Diplomats’ Forum entitled ‘Australia in the Asian Century’, held at UniSA (City West).Eleven Year 10/11 students represented GGHS at a Gifted and Talented Students’ Conference focussing on the Philosophy of Science.Three of our teams (comprising 22 Year 8-10 students) won more than half of their debates – a great achievement For the first time GGHS entered teams in the South Australian Debating Association (SADA) interschool debating competition.Both teams came third in their division, and the senior team represented the state in the national final For the first time we had a Junior (Year 10) team and a Senior (Year 10/11) team competing in the State Australian Computational Linguistics Olympiad (OzCLO).10 Year 12 students (24%) from the Disability Unit achieved their Modified SACE Certificate in 2012.Strong improvement in Numeracy as identified through NAPLAN testing – 95.5% above SA & Australian benchmarks in 2012 (up from 92% in 2011).In 2012, 54 of these students achieved the National Minimum Standard or higher in all categories of NAPLAN tests in Year 9 – strong testimony to the programs put in place at GGHS to target improvement for these students 60 students were identified in 2010, whilst they were in Year 7, to be below benchmark in one or more areas of NAPLAN.Daniel Sansome achieved a credit in Chemistry and a distinction in Physics – this was an outstanding result in very challenging exams Year 11 students took part in the annual Science Olympiad exams.18 Year 8 - 10 students sat the International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) English test, with 1 student scoring a High Distinction, 4 scoring Distinctions and 1 scoring a Credit.
